Israeli Army Enforces Curfew Across Several Hebron Neighborhoods

(MENAFN) The Israeli military enforced a curfew Wednesday evening across several Palestinian neighborhoods in central Hebron, located in the occupied West Bank, while also blocking access points as the Jewish holiday of Passover began.

According to human rights activist Aref Jaber, speaking to media, residents in the Jaber, Salaymeh, and Wadi al-Hussein areas—zones under Israeli administration—were informed that restrictions would start at 04:00 pm local time (1300GMT).

Jaber noted that authorities did not specify how long the curfew would remain in place, though past patterns suggest it typically aligns with the onset of the holiday, which starts at sunset Wednesday and continues for one week.

He added that the measures impact roughly 500 Palestinian households, representing more than 2,500 individuals. The neighborhoods are experiencing a significant military deployment, alongside tight movement restrictions that limit residents’ ability to travel or even leave their homes.

Hebron has been divided since the 1997 Hebron Protocol agreement between the Palestinian Authority and Israel into two sectors: H1, administered by Palestinians, and H2, under Israeli control. The H2 sector, covering approximately 20% of the city, includes the Old City, the Ibrahimi Mosque, and the neighborhoods now under curfew.

Palestinian estimates indicate that more than 800 Israeli settlers reside in enclaves situated within the Israeli-controlled portion of the city.
